Five new spindles! Two of them are already sold, but the other three are up on the shop, including a new model, rim weighted!

And here’s a close up of one of the new ones.

Spins really well, I have to say. I test every spindle before it goes out to determine if it’s balanced well and if it has an “ideal” point to hook the yarn through as you spin. These, as rim weights are prone to do, spins way long but is harder to crank up quite as fast. You might also notice that this model has a significantly narrower shaft (and a tiny bit longer) than my other top whorls.

And now, my hands are all crampy from holding and sanding whorls and carving shafts.

Mokey says, “I’m cuuuuute, there, now you took the photo… will you throw the ball for me now?”

And that’s all for now!

First, Brenda asked a question…

Sadly, I know almost nothing about my click reel. I got it from an estate sale, and the son knew next to nothing about any of the equipment. I know it’s old enough that the wood of the gears are getting soft. I disengaged the gearing-click so that I wouldn’t tear any more teeth off.

And now, my current spinning.

I was going to spin up some Tunis for socks. But instead I decided to spin up some of the coopworth that I dyed up while experimenting for the Morpheus colorway (one of the Mythic colorways of the last round). It’s a pretty dark grey-purple.

I’ve been spinning up something around laceweight/light fingering via a supported longdraw. It’s going pretty well, the fiber’s more cooperative than I expected from such a long stapled fiber in a carded prep. It’s going to be semi-solid with nice subtle color changes in it, very dark. I’ll be interested to see just how much it halos when thwacked, given that I’ve been longdrawing it.

A not very good photo. Off-color and blurry. ::grumbles::

Finally, doggies. This photo reminds me very much of that picture of Pooh and Piglet, “Nothing, I just wanted to be sure of you.” Tried to put the whole text in mouse-over… but my mouse-over text boxes are apparently not working at all.

That’s all for now!

WilyG asks: What do you mean by 2×2 Chain-ply?

A: What I mean is actually “cable” ply. For some reason I keep calling it chain plying, which is the same as Navajo plying (plying via a giant crochet chain). Cable-ply is when you take a plied yarn and ply it to another plied yarn. A 2×2 cable-plied yarn would be two two-ply yarns plied together. So, a 4 ply yarn, made of 2 2-plies.

———

Ted: What is “hosiery twist?”

A: Hosiery twist is a tight plying. In most technical terms, it’s 15.35 tpi (twists per inch)

———

Feel free to ask any more questions you’ve got!

EDIT: Fixed the bit about cable/chain plying.

That’s all for now!
